Rethink what's possible

Be part of the innovation generation

In January 2021, UBC will welcome students to the new Master of Engineering Leadership degree in Sustainable Process Engineering. This interdisciplinary master’s program combines graduate-level engineering courses taught by some of the world’s leading researchers on sustainability with foundational business, entrepreneurship and leadership courses – giving you the skills and confidence to take your career in new directions. The global impacts of climate change, population growth and dwindling resources require new ways of thinking. Traditional manufacturing methods are simply not sustainable, and we need forward-thinking individuals to re-engineer existing industrial processes and develop new environmentally sustainable processes and products. We also need engineers who have both technical expertise and the business and leadership skills to grow sustainable businesses and lead change within their organizations. Over the 12-month program, students will apply advanced concepts in molecular sciences and engineering to design new chemicals, fuels and materials with improved properties and performance. These courses are taught through UBC Faculty of Applied Science by leading researchers in the field of sustainability. Technical classes are complemented by business courses offered through UBC Sauder’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School, ranked first in Canada for business and management studies. These courses provide a foundation in business, strategy, leadership and entrepreneurship.
It’s a strategic combination. “Our students will graduate with deeper insight into both how to design the next generation of processes and come up with better ways of doing business,” says Program Director Dr. Vikramaditya Yadav.
We will welcome the first cohort of students in January 2021. Applicants will be admitted on a rolling basis with three application deadlines throughout the year. We are currently accepting applications for the first-round deadline of May 1. Apply by May 1, and we’ll let you know by June 1 if you’ve been accepted into the program, giving you time to prepare for the transition. Interested? We invite you to learn more about the Sustainable Process Engineering program, hear from program director Dr. Vikramaditya Yadav about why this program is so important for shifting to a low-carbon economy and review the application process and eligibility requirements.
