The application portal for the MEL and MHLP will open on January 1, 2025, for programs starting in January 2026.

Join a top ranked university

UBC is one of the world’s top-ranked universities and one of the highest-ranking Canadian universities on international surveys. On the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, for example, we rank 13th in the world for contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals; first in industry, innovation and infrastructure; and seventh in climate action. As a master’s student, you’ll benefit by being part of this renowned learning community, taught by professors who are leaders in their field.

Technical, management, and leadership excellence

You’ll gain the knowledge and skills to shift your industry focus, advance into positions of greater responsibility and have a greater impact in your industry. Each of the sector-specific programs includes technical courses covering the most important industry issues and business courses to help you become a confident leader in your field.
“The students that join us to pursue the MEL or MHLP know deep down that they can do more for themselves, their communities and the world – and that this specific degree from UBC can be an accelerator for that process to happen,” says Academic Director Justin Bull.

Get ready to apply

TWO APPLICATION ROUNDS There are two MEL and MHLP application rounds:
  • Round 1: March 25, 2025
  • Round 2: June 25, 2025
We recommend that you apply by the first-round deadline of March 25. If you’re an international student, this will give you lots of time to receive your study permit and plan your move to Vancouver. If you’re a domestic student, applying early also makes it easier to confirm the logistics of a potential move and transitioning out of full-time work.
